^ADD PLAYER TO ROSTER}

all known information that the screen asks for. If the five custom
field titles in the lower left part of the screen are empty then you
didn't define any when you set up your league. Enter names with the
last name first such as : ^Mantle, Mickey}. All information can be

*EditLeague
Use this screen to setup a new league or edit an existing league.
If you would like to have five extra fields to hold a players per-
sonal information then fill in the titles for those fields at the
lower left part of the screen. If you plan on using more than one
division in your league you can save yourself some work later by
filling them in now. Create up to 10 new stats by simply filling
in the abbreviation for each stat in the lower center part of the
screen. These stats will be accumulated the same as all other non
decimal based stats{(e.g. at bats,hits,runs)}. You can also derive
5 decimal based stats{(e.g. batting average)} from the non decimal
stats by filling in the fields at the lower right part of the
screen. These derived stats must be based on the formulas shown to
the right of the fields. For example you want to track how a play-
wr does as a pinch-hitter.
|
For non decimal field 1 enter :{PH} for ^PINCH HITS}
For non decimal field 2 enter :{PAB}for ^PINCH AT BATS}
For decimal field A enter :{PBA}for ^PINCH HIT BATTING AVE.}
Since the formula for field A is{#1 / #2} then field A will be fig-
ured as ^PINCH HITS}/^PINCH AT BATS} which gives us the desired
derived stat namely the players batting average as a pinch hitter.

*CreatePDriver
Creating a printer driver is as easy as copying a couple of
numbers from your printer manual. The decimal escape sequences
you need are usually found near the back of your printer man-
ual. Simply look up the codes for each title displayed on the
screen and enter the decimal numbers in the spaces provided.
Most manuals also list the hexa-decimal numbers so be sure you
enter the decimal numbers. The titles shown on the screen will
most likely not match the desciptions in your manual exactly
but you should not have much trouble finding the correct codes.
For some titles you will need 2 sets of codes, one to turn the
feature on (activate) and one to turn the feature off (deact-
ivate or terminate). The functions of each title are explained
on the following screens.
|
{NEAR LETTER QUALITY}
This feature is standard on most printers. Reports will appear
much sharper if NLQ is enabled but reports will usually print at
a much slower speed. You will also need to enter the codes to de-
activate this feature.
{PROPORTIONAL PRINT}
This feature can cause printed reports to be completely out of
alignment if enabled. The main reason it is included here is so
you have an easy way to disable it. Make sure you enter the codes
to disable (terminate) this feature and select NO from the config-
uration menu for proportional print.
|
{RESET PRINTER}
Use this feature if you ever have a need to reset your printer.
{STROKE WEIGHTS #1 & #2}
These 2 titles may also be called emphasized print or double
strike print. The program uses these 2 features to make printed
reports more readable by alternating the type of print used on
each line. If you want all lines to be printed the same then
enter the same codes for SW #1 and #2.
|
{PAGE LENGTH & SKIP PERFORATION}
This feature is used with the SKIP PERFORATION feature to have
reports skip over the perforation at the end of a page. The page
length will be remembered until you reset the printer or turn the
printer off.
{UNI-DIRECTIONAL PRINTING}
If your printer supports this feature it is recomended that you
use it to make sure that columns are perfectly aligned.
*SendCC
Enter up to 6 different control codes to send to the printer.
Press{F10}to actually send the codes to the printer. Press{ESC}
to exit without sending any codes. Control codes can usually be
found in the back of your printer manual.
*EnterHeader
Enter the custom header that you want to be printed at the top
of the report. The header will be saved to the current custom
header file for future use. The header you enter here will only
be used as long as you do not exit the print menu.
*EnterTitle
Enter a title for the custom display. Make sure to use a desciptive
name so that you will know the contents of the display.
*SetQStatus
Set Qualifying Status
*CreateDisplay
Although BallStat Pro comes with ready made displays you will
find a need to make your own displays to more accuratly reflect
your leagues needs. You can make displays for PERSONAL INFORMA-
TION, PLAYER STATISTICS, INDIVIDUAL STATISTICS, GAME STATISTICS
and STANDINGS & TEAM TOTALS. The displays are easy to create and
should allow you all the flexibility you need.
|
Before you start creating a report there are a couple of things
you should consider.
1.^Will the report be used for a single team or for a whole league.}
If the report is for a whole league then you will have to make
sure you use the{TEAM NAME}field some where in the report so you
can tell which team a player plays for.
|
2.^Will the report reflect compressed data.}If you plan to compress
a report before printing then certain fields may reflect inacur-
ate data. You will find yourself compressing{INDIVIDUALS}most of
the time so fields like DATE will not be accurate unless you qual-
ify by a single date. For example, you load your teams individuals
into memory and select VIEW from the main menu. At first all you
data will not be compressed so the date field will show the correct
date for all the players games shown. However if you now press F9
to compress the data all players individuals with the same name
will be combined (compressed if you will) and each may show a dif-
ferent date so you may not want to include the DATE field in the
report. Of course if you wouldn't include the DATE field in the
report you could still use DATE as a qualification. Deciding which
fields to use in reports using compressed data may take some pre-
planning. Note that you only need worry about string fields as
statistical fields will always be correct when compressing data.
|
To begin creating a report press{F5}and select the field you wish
to show first at the left of the report. You will most likely want
to have the players name or teams name as the first entry in a re-
port. If the field you select is NOT a statistic then you can size
the field by using the{+}and{-}keys. The maximum field size and the
current field size are shown in the upper right hand corner of the
screen. In order to save space don't make the field size any larger
then you actually need. I find that 15 is a nice size for a players
name. You can insert blank spaces and dashes anywhwere in a report
by pressing{SPACE}or{D}for dash. If you select a statistic then the
field size is fixed at 5 for accumulative stats (AB,R,H,etc) and 7
for derived stats (BA,OBP,ERA,etc). Press the{DELETE}key to erase
the last field you entered. When you are finished with a report you
must press{S}to save the report to disk. You will be asked to enter
a name for the report before it is actually saved to disk. To leave
the report maker without saving the report press{ESC}and then{Y.}

games in your league. Any location entered here will be select-
able from a menu when you need to enter game locations when sav-
ing game information.
*Add another location

bar.
*Select Information

will be placed in the field where the cursor is currently located.

you have not saved the team totals (game). To save the team totals
press{N}then{F9}. To quit without saving your team totals press{Y},
however it is stongly recommended that you always save the game tot-
als to disk.
*Delete Qualifying
Press{Y}to delete the macro shown. Press{N}or{ESC}to abort.
*.MA
Enter a descriptive name for the macro and press{F10}to save
the macro to disk. You will then be able to select this macro
from the macro menu by pressing the{TAB}key. Press{ESC}to abort.
